Coursework

Here are just a few courses that have had a tremendous impact on me.

Inorganic Chemistry

Prof. Sarah St. Angelo

FALL 2019

One of my favorite courses at Dickinson, we learned the fundamentals of inorganic chemistry and partook in a number of labs, such as quantum dot creation and silica dioxide nanoparticle synthesis, culminating in our own ovine urine-coated hydroxyapatite nanoparticle synthesis experiment.

SEM imaging of a black chicken feather.  Prof. St. Angelo and I hoped to capture the nanostructures that cause the feather's iridescence.

Inorganic Chemistry

Compound microscope viewing sea urchin embryos

(late gastrula stage)

Animal Development

Prof. Kirsten Guss

FALL 2019

We learned the basics of embryonic development and worked with sea urchin, fruit fly, and chicken embryos.  In lab, we were able to witness firsthand the early development and gene expression in these organisms.

Animal Development
Natural History of Vertebrates

Natural History of Vertebrates

Prof. Scott Boback

SPRING 2020

We learned how to identify 129 different vertebrate species, as well as how to preserve our own collected specimens. We also gained hands-on experience in the field, such as fish seining and late-night vernal pond exploring!
